The Sweetest Little Broken Bird That Ever Lived

The sweetest bird that ever peeped

Lived beneath my roof

She always had a song to sing

Her one goal in life was joy to bring

And even when the sun would hide

Her happy song came from deep inside

But darker mornings come

After alarm clocks sound

When you go to greet your feathered friend

And her spirit can't be found

She has soared beyond the heavens

In the darkness of the night

Her empty shell not moving

For her spirit did take flight

You were a good reminder

In an awfully ugly world

To share a song of kindness

Though mankind is in a swirl

You showed me hope for better days

With things made right and evil far away

Death is a treat for everyone

Though we see it as a chore

But at the end of Death Street is peace forever more

Thank you for the perches you made upon my hand so light

Never caring your left leg normal, but not your right.

I will miss you, sweet Calliope

The bird whose heart was always full

May I be more like you in the morning

While embracing that heavenly pull.
